Hailing from the Lansing area, The Hoopties perform a wide variety of original “all-American” music, ranging from old-school country to contemporary R&B to classic funk and reggae and many points between and beyond. This soulful, hip group delivers a rich, charismatic blues performance.
Striking a balance between diva and delightful stage presence, Twyla’s rich, resonant voice, full of bluesy sass-appeal and that gotta-hug-her style has made Twyla one of Lansing’s most talented – and loved – vocalists.
This is a rock solid group of seasoned musicians playing for the love of music, and it shows. The group features Twyla Birdsong on vocals, Aaron Holland on guitar, James “Mocha” Waller on saxophone and harmonica, Eric Payne on drums, and Jason Strotheide on bass.

The Old Town BluesFest is a two-day FREE music festival that brings national, regional, and local acts to an audience of roughly 15,000 people from across Michigan and nearby states.
BluesFest’s music truly is living music, history in the making. Each artist at the festival is asked to play an original composition, something that hasn’t been played at any other festival.
