This formidable blues outfit weaves together a show laced with old-school sensibilities and modern-day energy. Chicago standards, Texas shuffles or West Coast swing, BluesFest goers will recognize the unmistakable, engaging sound of the Hawktones. Feeling their belly-burning bluesy energy, it is no wonder that the Hawktones have become a long-time fixture on the Midwest blues scene.

The Hawktones are led by Hank Mowery, who learned his front-man craft jamming with local and national true legends of the blues, such as Pinetop Perkins, Gary Primich, William Clarke, Little Charlie & The Nightcats, Anson Funderburg, Mark Hummel, Rusty Zinn and many more.

Mike Morgan comments, “I was amazed that Hank could step in on a national level like he did. He is a cool harmonica player and singer with an old-school feel, like Little Walter and Big Walter Horton … the cool stuff. Two minutes in our first show, we knew he wasn’t a replacement, he was part of the band.”

“Hank Mowery & the Hawktones have become a pretty formidable blues outfit, boasting a lineup of outstanding musicians from across Michigan,” says John Sinkevics of the Grand Rapids Press.

Show credits include Buddy Guy, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Little Charlie & The Nightcats, Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown, Etta James, The Iguanas, Roomful of Blues, Heart, Cheap Trick, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Little Richard, Kim Wilson, Blues Traveler, and President Bill Clinton.
